Rule" "You Gotta Have Friends"

The one "rule" that I always got "right" was to always put my girlfriends high up on the priority list....I could always count on my girlfriends (not so much the boyfriends!)....I have a crazy assortment of special ladies in my life....from "younguns" in their twenties, to a woman who practically adopted me, who just turned 60 today!...Each one holds a special place in my heart, but the one common thread is that they support me in everything I do, and vice versa....My best friend Cindy and I have been through the trenches together...She has supported me through every "double pumping it" cry(my favorite line in Eat, Pray, Love) after my 2 major breakups, and worse when my mother passed away...I literally cried EVERY day for an entire year (all while submerging myself in an internship and getting my Master's degree)....I was there for her 13 years ago when she found out she was pregnant the day after her and her boyfriend broke up...I was her queasy labor coach, and brought my beautiful goddson into this world with her...We have been through it ALL together and she feels more like my sister, than my sister!...We are very different in how we approach life, but we totally "get" one another... One commonality that we have is laughter....We are always laughing, the "pee in your pants kind of laughing...So ladylike!....I think of her in the song "For Good" in "Wicked", I feel that everything I am, and everything that she is, have been influenced by each other....Now that I have a wonderful man in my life, I treasure my girlfriends even more....There is plenty of room for my friends AND my boyfriend in my life.... So, this post's for the girls!....Thank you. Thank you. Thank You.

  1. Now I know you saw my Elphaba post!!! I love the Wicked lyrics so much that I have seen Wicked with my friend in NYC, with my kids and about 25 faculty members in Jacksonville, and with Mr. Man in Miami. I am even teaching "THEY CALL ME WONDERFUL" to my ENC 1101 class to illustrate compare and contrast..But I digress..The dearest man to ever take a breath died two years ago and so many times I will remember that "BECAUSE I KNEW YOU, I HAVE BEEN CHANGED FOR GOOD," or the times we were "DANCIN' THROUGH LIFE." I think I will have to blog about him soon! Wait! this is all about you! I am glad you have a sista' from another mista' and that you can roll on the floor laughing...Mark Twain says that AGAINST THE ASSAULT OF LAUGHTER, NOTHING CAN STAND....I think you and the other Cindy resemble that remark!!!

  2. Cindy, I am "new" to "Wicked", just seeing it this past year (Steve's 45th b-day present...weekend in the city), and YES I saw your post:)..Steve "claimed" he didn't "love" full-out musicals....Well, for Jersey Boys(his other choice) we would have been sitting in seats that might have well been outside in the alley...So Wicked it was!...Steve was the first one at the end to jump to his feet for a standing "O"...I was a second behind him, wiping my tears and puffy face....I now have "For Good" on my ipod and shamelessly belt it out while I'm driving...I want to be like YOU...I just "need" to see it again! Loved it!

  3. Amen sister! Well put! Who or what would we be if it weren't for the girls in our lives that hold us up when life wants to push us down? Relationships with men, family issues, career stuff, etc. I always say the girls in my life stand still while the world spins out of control around me. It sounds like you are surrounded by an amazing female support system; something that is totally necessary for your overall wellness. You are just as much of a blessing to Cindy as she is to you, and knowing that you are that important to someone should really give you validation and joy. If it weren't for my sister Sally and about 5 other VERY close girlfriends of mine, I would be a battered, sobbing, unsuccessful MESS ... because along the road they have carried be above and beyond the many trials and tribulations I have faced.

Guys will NEVER fully understand why Sex & the City was such a phemonenon, and hey, who could blame them? Cheers!

  5. I agree...I do have two wonderfully, fantastic girlfiends that I could not have lived without! One...I like to joke, has been my best friend since we "were in the womb"...our mother's were friends! She has been there for me every step of the way, and is not just a best friend to me...but Ayva's "Aunt" KaSandra! My other friend, I met in college and has helped me through many hard times and been there through it all...she married my cousin and I was the maid of honor in her wedding, unfortunatly, we don't get to see each other as often as I would like to, but each time we get together, its like we were never apart! Girls just get each othr, and it's a good thing, because there are just some things that the men just shouldn't even try to understand! LOL! Here's to great girlfriends...and a great group of girlfriends that I found online!! Holla!
*...and i am ashamed to say I have never seen Wicked...but would definitely love to now!
